The course aims to enable students to:

1. Understand important historical events, personalities, national development, and social and cultural aspects of China.

2. Understand and analyze relevant historical materials and cultivate the ability to study history.

3. Cultivate good moral character and a sense of identity, belonging and responsibility towards the country, nation and society

4. Cultivate interest in learning Chinese history.

Learning Objectives

1. Gain a comprehensive understanding of the basic historical facts of China’s political evolution, national development, and social culture.

2. Use different methods to understand and organize historical materials, and analyze and evaluate different historical events with a truth-seeking and fair attitude, thereby cultivating their ability to objectively analyze and evaluate historical events.

3. Understand the causal relationships and mutual influences between different historical events, and understand the origins, evolution, and development trends of current events, thereby establishing historical knowledge and understanding the significance of history in learning from the past and understanding the present.

4. Study the important events in Hong Kong’s development related to Chinese history, and understand the development process of Hong Kong and its relationship with the development of the country.

5. Through understanding China’s social and cultural development, ethnic interactions, cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, and scientific and technological inventions, students will understand, appreciate, and inherit the inclusive, pioneering, and innovative spirit of Chinese culture. This will enhance students’ affection for the Chinese nation and its culture, and enable them to respect and care for different cultures and heritages.
