Course Aims

History is a discipline of inquiry and analysis. Studying history inspires students to ask meaningful questions about past events, collect and analyze historical data, and draw conclusions based on historical facts. This allows students to actively participate in the entire learning process.

 

The objectives of the History curriculum (Secondary 1 to 3) are:

(a) To enhance and foster students’ interest in learning history;

(b) To help students draw lessons from the past and understand the present;

(c) To enhance students’ understanding of their community and local culture, as well as other major cultures of the world;

(d) To develop students’ historical skills and generic abilities for future study and life;

(e) To develop students into citizens with a global perspective, insight and a sense of responsibility.

 

The objectives of the History curriculum (Secondary 4 to Secondary 6) are:

The aims of this course are to enable students to:

(a) Understand one’s own position in today’s society by understanding its origins and development;

(b) develop critical thinking, communication skills and the ability to make sound judgements in the process of exploring historical issues;

(c) examine past and contemporary events from different perspectives with an impartial and empathetic attitude;

(d) understand the characteristics and values of their own culture and appreciate the shared characteristics and common problems faced by human society;

(e) To cultivate national consciousness and global citizenship, so that we can become intelligent and informed members of our local community, our nation and the world;

(f) equip oneself to explore in depth topics that are relevant to one’s personal interests and may be useful for future employment or professional development.
